ByteDance recently launched the independent brand “Xiaohe” in the field of the online medical service business for the first time, meanwhile releasing the “Xiaohe” App (for patients) and “Xiaohe Doctor” App (serving doctors).
This is ByteDance’s medical business’s low-key appearance after exploring the healthcare field for over a year.
The app officially launched at the end of October, as an equivalent to a doctor’s office that manages patient, income withdrawals, and consultations on the Xiaohe platform.
Currently, Xiaohe’s primary functions are still concentrated within the Xiaohe App. Backed by one of the top social media brands globally, Xiaohe will have access to ByteDance’s traffics from Douyin and Tiktok to empower and increase its popularity and market share in the Chinese digital healthcare industry.
Xiaohe’s current advantage in this business comes from Baikemy.com — an online medical encyclopedia website founded in 2010 and acquired by ByteDance.
According to the China Medical and Health Application Report released by Frost & Sullivan, China’s Internet medical market size reached $4 billion in 2019. It may increase to $29.7 billion in 2026. Another research done by Global Market Insights indicates that the global telemedicine market value was $38.3 billion in 2019 and could grow to 130.5 billion U.S. dollars by 2025, with an average annual compound growth rate of 19.2%.
