According to Strategy Analytics, Vivo jumped to the top of 5G smartphone shipments in the Asia-Pacific region for the first time in Q2’21. Three of the top five shipping volume 5G smartphone manufacturers in the region are Chinese brands. The shipments of 5G smartphones in the Asia-Pacific region have an annual increase of 110%.

Yiwen Wu, a senior analyst at Strategy Analytics, said: “Vivo is a leading smartphone manufacturer in the Asia-Pacific region with an annual shipment growth of 215%. In the past year, Vivo has surpassed Xiaomi, OPPO, and Apple to become the top 5G smartphone shipments in the Asia-Pacific region. Vivo successfully took advantage of Huawei’s market share decline. Leading technology and affordable prices enabled Vivo Smartphones such as the iQOOO U3 5G and the iQOOO 7 5G to become the most popular 5G devices in the region.”

Ville-Petteri Ukonaho, Deputy Director of Strategy Analytics, said: “In Q2’21, Xiaomi’s smartphone shipments ranked second in the Asia-Pacific. Backed by China, Xiaomi’s 5G smartphone shipments will reach an average annual rate of 286% in Q2’21. Xiaomi’s Redmi series smartphones, such as Redmi Note 9 5G and Note 9 Pro 5G, and Mi series 5G smartphones, such as Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G, are Xiaomi’s popular models.”

Ken Hyers, Director of Strategy Analytics, said: “Other Chinese manufacturers have not stagnated either. OPPO’s 5G smartphone shipments ranked third in the Asia-Pacific region. OPPO looks forward to an exciting quarter in Q3’21 because its Reno 6 series will launch three new 5G models. Vivo may reach the peak in China during Q2’21 and will need to focus on other 5G regional markets such as South Korea and Japan, for future growth.”
