TikTok breaks global MAU record

On September 27, TikTok announced that its global monthly active users have exceeded 1 billion. This means that TikTok has successfully entered the 1 billion MAU club, having become one of the top 5 global user-active applications alongside Facebook’s Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and WeChat.

TikTok’s rise has become unstoppable. Although TikTok was met with regulatory censorship in the United States, India, and other regions, its number of users and monthly live activity are still increasing sharply around the world.

TikTok has achieved 1 billion MAUs in 4 short years. This achievement leads all Products with 1+ billion MAUs in the world by far.

According to ByteDance, as of January 2018, TikTok has approximately 55 million global users; by December 2018, the user numbers exceeded 271 million; by December 2019, the user number had increased to 507 million; summer 2020, the app had nearly 700 million MAUs. Now, the number of MAUs has officially exceeded 1 billion.

As of July 2021, Sensor Tower data showed that TikTok has reached 3 billion downloads worldwide, becoming the first non-Facebook app with this number. TikTok has also become the world’s most downloaded App in 2020, suppressing the Dominating Facebook family pack: Facebook, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram.
