On January 20th, MediaTek released a new series of Dimensity 5G chips: the Dimensity 1200 and the Dimensity 1100, focusing on gaming, imaging, and 5G.

As MediaTek’s next-generation 5G flagship mobile SoC, the Dimensity 1200 adopts TSMC’s 6nm process, the CPU uses a 1+3+4 three-cluster structure and houses an Arm Cortex-A78 super core with the main frequency of up to 3.0GHz.

Compared with the previous generation of Dimensity 1000+, the Dimensity 1200 has a 22% increase in CPU performance, a 25% increase in energy efficiency, and a 13% increase in GPU performance.

The Dimensity 1200 is equipped with a newly upgraded HyperEngine 3.0 game optimization engine, which can optimize the user’s game experience from four aspects: network, image quality, control, and load management.

In terms of game image quality, the Dimensity 1200 supports AR ray tracing (Ray Tracing), bringing platform-level game rendering to mobile phones.

5G has always been the dominant area of the Dimensity series.

The Dimensity 1200 has further introduced services such as dual card in-game calling, 5G high-speed rail mode, and 5G elevator mode.

Even in scenarios where network signals such as calls and high-speed rail are affected, it can still effectively reduce game network delays and freezes, ensuring that the games maintain online.

In terms of filming, the Dimensity 1200 supports chip-level single-frame progressive 4K HDR video technology (Staggered HDR).

When users record 4K video, each frame is subjected to 3 exposure fusion processing, so that the video quality is significantly improved in color, contrast, details, and other aspects.

In addition, with the support of AI technology, the Dimensity 1200 SDR to HDR technology can present better video effects on mobile phones.

Redmi will launch its first flagship esports gaming phone in 2021, equipping it with the Dimensity 1200 flagship chip for the first time.

In the future, MediaTek will also cooperate with manufacturers such as OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor. Jingquan Xu, the deputy general manager of MediaTek and general manager of the wireless communications business unit, said in an interview that MediaTek does not rule out in-depth cooperation with Honor, which is currently still under evaluation.
