Recently, Lenovo released its first self-developed industrial robot: the Morningstar Industrial Robot at the 2020 Lenovo Innovation and Technology Conference.

Morningstar robots work for the manufacture of domestically made large aircraft.

It has an autonomous mode and a human-machine collaboration mode. In the autonomous mode, the robot can act intelligently and build maps intelligently, move without human control. 3D object recognition is used to guide the robot arm on the robot to perform tasks. Its path planning is also autonomous and achieves obstacle avoidance during its function.

This robot, based on two of Lenovo’s first technologies-hybrid lightweight virtualization engine and asymptotic model optimization, can accurately perform complicated aircraft painting tasks with the support of powerful edge computing power and intelligent technology.

Different from traditional mechanical debugging and manual operation difficulty, the workers only need to put on AR glasses and remotely teach using the joystick, the robot can realize autonomous spraying, which greatly improves the efficiency and accuracy of aircraft spray-coating.

In 2019, the global robotics market reached a total of $29.41 USD, of which, industrial robots were $15.92 billion USD, accounting for 54% of the robot market; service robots were $9.46 billion USD, accounting for 32% of the robot market share; special robots were $4.03 billion USD, accounting for 14% of the market share.

Also, according to IDC research, by the middle of 2022, 50% of industrial robots in use will be given artificial intelligence-based operation, coordination, and analysis capabilities, thereby meeting user companies’ expectations of a 30% increase in productivity and a 50% increase in process automation.
