On January 6, iQiyi Smart, an independently operated technology company under iQiyi, launched a new generation of VR product “QIYU 3”, and released the country’s first CV (Computer Vision) 6DoF VR interactive solution.

At the same time, iQiyi Smart also announced the opening of a global VR developer recruitment program “Project Columbus” to recruit global developers and develop game content.

“QIYU 3” achieves millimeter-level positioning accuracy, millisecond-level initialization speed, and millisecond-level delay, it fully matches the current three content ecosystems of Steam, Quest, and VIVEPORT; in terms of performance, it is equipped with Qualcomm Technologies AR/VR/MR dedicated platform built-Snapdragon XR2, its CPU and GPU performances are twice that of the previous generation of platforms.

It supports 8K video at 60fps, has a dedicated computer vision processor for VR algorithms, supports high-definition dual displays, as well as multimedia and AI features. The program provides three cooperation modes for global VR application/game developers: content procurement, contracting studios, and strategic cooperation.

From now on, developers all over the world can apply for the Qiyu 3 developer version for free and join the Qiyu VR ecological camp. Xiong Wen, CEO of iQiyi Intelligence, said that Oculus Quest2, the latest flagship of Facebook’s Oculus, can be regarded as the most successful product in the VR industry.

But it is not very suitable for Chinese users in terms of ergonomic design and sales channels, so Wen Xiong said that iQiyi Smart is going to be a better VR all-in-one device than Oculus Quest 2.

2021 is the sixth year that iQiyi has entered the VR industry. From 2017 to 2020, iQiyi Smart released 4 Qiyu series VR all-in-one devices. This year, Qiyu 3 will also officially go on sale in the second quarter.
