IDC: Global Personal Computing Devices Market Predictions
IDC’s global personal computing equipment quarterly tracking report data shows that the tablet computer market has slowed down, but still maintained a year-on-year growth of 3.9% with a total shipment of 40.4 million units.
In the first half of 2021, the global tablet computer market shipped 80.35 million units, a year-on-year increase of 24.4%.
Compared to the global market, China’s tablet computer market shipped 7.15 million units in the second quarter of 2021, an increase of 8.3% year-on-year. In the first half of 2021, the overall Chinese domestic market shipments were 13.4 million units, a year-on-year increase of 29.7%.
Although the growth rate was higher than that of the global market, the overall trend of the Chinese domestic market in the first half of the year showed a “Calm before the storm.” Due to the stabilization of market demands, the recovery of channel inventory, and the fact that most competitive new products of most manufacturers will be focusing on the bottom half of the year, the Chinese tablet computer market is expected to enter a bloody competition phase within the next few months.
“Although there is still a shortage in the supply chain, there are still plenty of opportunities for tablets in the education market,” said Anuroopa Nataraj, senior analyst of IDC’s Global Mobile Device Tracking Project: “Online learning achieved rapid development and has promoted the digital transformation of the education field. Although there isn’t a single global solution, many emerging markets continue to increase the use of Android tablets, while schools in developed markets such as the United States and Canada prefer Chromebooks. Nevertheless, as education begins its transportation to the open platforms, countries in Europe and Asia have recently witnessed the rise of Chromebooks. The bigger concern at hand is that consumer’s demand for tablets is slowing at a faster pace compared to the Chromebook and the even broader PC market.”
